La Supernova (il puntino indicato dalle linee rosse) nella galassia IC 1296, vicino alla nebulosa M 57 (la macchia bianca sovraesposta) è ancora visibile a distanza di tanti giorni. La linea che attraversa l'immagine è un satellite di passaggio.

Object visible on 3x150sec images remotely taken at ISON-NM Observatory (Mayhill, NM, USA) with 0.4-m f/3 telescope + CCD (KAF09000) on Sept 26.2172, 2013. Object located at 21h 00m 23s.69 +/- 0".09, -14d 29' 51".7 +/- 0".12 (UCAC-4) with magnitude 17.3U (mag. limit ~21.1m). Una supernova ai limiti delle possibilità di percezione dei nostri strumenti. La supernova è visibile nella debole e remota galassia IC 1342 (nell'immagine è evidenziata dalle linee rosse).

La galassia in cui è esplosa la supernova è distante ben 109 megaparsec, pari a 355.510.451 anni luce !
